just some thoughts

Summer vacation is over 1 month from today and that breaks my heart a little. I feel like summer just started. I still feel like I have stuff I want to do before I have to go back to school! I have to keep reminding myself I really have done quite a bit, but I'm hoping to do a lot more!
1 goal for the next month: go visit water in either a lake or ocean. then I think my summer can be complete.
oh and last week I saw the cutest movie: Winnie the Pooh! I loved it.
I'm really excited for next Saturday; I'll take lots of pictures and blog all about it.
here's to the next 31 days!

Harry Potter

So yesterday Mike and I got to go see an early premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2. We loved it so much! We were so glad we were invited to go! While I was watching the movie, I thought about how long HP has been in my life..it's been over a decade! I still remember reading the first book in my 5th grade class. It's crazy to know it's been around that long. It's also been cool to share it all with Mike. We went and bought the 7th book at midnight before we were even dating and since have seen the past few movies that have come out. I'm definitely a Harry Potter geek, but what can I say, I grew up with it.
After the movie, we went to Pioneer Park for a free concert. The band playing was Explosions in the Sky. Mike and I weren't sure what we thought of the band, but we enjoyed just sitting on the grass and listening to the music anyway.
Next, we walked around a little bit until we were both too hungry to walk around anymore and so we went to Smiths and bought some sushi and fruit and had a little picnic dinner outside on the grass. It was the PERFECT summer night and I look forward to many more before summer is over!

Camping

This weekend, Mike and I went to Ely, Nevada to see our friend Hannah. We had such a good time! We left Friday afternoon with no plans other than to see her. On our way we filmed some video of our drive, stopped at a McDonald's for lunch, listened to some great music (in my opinion) and talked...when Mike wasn't sleeping. When we got to our camp site, Mike set up our tent while I was catching up with Hannah (I have such a great guy!) after, we ate s'mores and just talked.

On Saturday, we both planned to sleep in and we were highly unsuccessful...7am is NOT sleeping in. After breakfast we decided to clean up camp and go to the Great Basin National Park which was about 70 miles away. We wanted to go tour the Lehmen Caves, but were unable to due to the touring scheduling and availability. Instead, we took a scenic drive of Wheeler Peak and hiked to Stella Lake. There was still some snow on the mountain, but we had perfect weather and a great time soaking in the views. After our drive and once we were back in town, we still had an hour to kill before meeting up with Hannah. As we were driving along, we saw a little museum so we decided to go in. It was one of the coolest museums I've been in. Everything was just laid out and it wasn't really behind glass or anything. They had some pretty cool stuff too. We enjoyed walking around and posing for funny pictures. I loved walking into the houses they had out back. We easily spent an hour wandering around. Then it was time to meet Hannah! She took us to a spot called Garnet Hill. (So when Hannah first told me about Garnet Hill, she told me we could go hunting for Garnets. I replied, "First I would have to take up hunting..." yeah, I quickly learned a garnet is not an animal....haha) We had fun "hunting" for the garnets and actually found some! By the time we were done with that, it was time to go get some dinner. We went to this Mexican Restaurant called Margaritas-it was de-lic-ious!

Mike was a great sport and drove the whole way back so I could get some rest. It was a busy weekend, but we had a great time together and it was fun to see Hannah. We decided we'll have to go camping again this summer. I hope we do because I've certainly missed it the past 5 or so years!

Summer fun

It's July, I can't even believe it! I think July is my favorite month of the summer so I hope to take it all in.
I'm so excited for the 4th tomorrow! I love the 4th! I love thinking about our country's history and everything that it took to get us here. I'm so thankful for this country I'm blessed to live in and all the freedoms I enjoy because I live here. Today in church we sang some patriotic songs and I just loved it. I love paying attention to the lyrics and knowing where they come from.
I miss camp and teaching about the war of 1812 and the Star Spangled Banner. I can't even imagine being there and witnessing everything that was happening. A few years ago, we went back east and I got to go to Gettysburg and to Fort McHenry and those are memories that will last with me forever. It was amazing to stand in the area where our National Anthem was written, to see and step where part of the war was fought.
anyway..so excited for tomorrow!!

The summer list is coming along nicely! So far I've visited 1 lemonade stand, I had my dad teach me how to make cobbler, I've had smores, tried the tacos, eaten plenty of snowcones, I went to the drive in and up to camp. I've had such a blast with the list and I'm excited to do more things on it. Happy Summer!
