My family has never done anything special for Memorial Day. We BBQ and spend the day together. It's simple, but I love it. This year I was able to spend the whole day with Mike and in doing so, we were able to spend time with both of our families. And as an added bonus, we got to play outside most of the day!
We met up early Monday morning and headed to his family's cabin. While we were there, we spent some time with his family, took a walk, and played board games. Mike has been, and will continue to be, so busy! It's really hard because we have discovered our relationship is always stronger when we get to spend consistent time together. I cannot explain how nice it was to just escape our busy lives and spend a whole day together. Just being able to relax together and enjoy the company was truly a blessing. I love Mike's family and I don't feel like I get to see them very often, so it was fun to go and spend a bit of time with them.
I have recently rediscovered my love of the outdoors. (I think I forgot about it last summer...) And being outside for most of the day just made me feel so alive and happy. I love summer. I definitely have a winter and a summer personality; and I like my summer one better. It's the real me. Okay, okay, anyways....
Next we went to my parent's house and had a BBQ with my family. It is always great to hang out with my family and I love the holidays so it gives me a good excuse to go over and hang out. I had wanted to go on a hike and it didn't really work out so we decided we would go back up to Bell Canyon, but this time hike to the first waterfall. Fail. Didn't happen. Maybe next time? It was still fun. Like I said, I'm on this hiking/mountain/outside kick. I'm just glad I can get people to go with me.
I had such a great weekend. I feel truly blessed to live where I do, to have my family live close, and to be able to spend so much time with Mike. I'm thankful for all those who have served and who continue to serve to make all of that possible. I have a lot of pride for this country and I truly enjoy all the freedoms we have.
I hope everyone had an enjoyable Memorial Day weekend!
